i was wondering if anyone knows what the 3 pin header marked as jp1 is for on the usb datalogger. i know the one parallel to the i/o header selects either spi or uart mode, but i couldn't find anything in the documentation or searching the forums about the jp1 header. the pins do seem to be marked p g r.

This is a guess, but on a similar device I use with a Vinculum, you have to set a jumper to Program mode when updating the Vinculum firmware, then put the jumper back for normal use.

You can check and see if one of those pins goes to pin 10 (PROG#) on the VNC1L chip which is internally pulled high via 200kohm to prevent firmware modification. When pulled low, the firmware can be reloaded/updated. I have done this a few times on my VMusic2 module which is very similar to the datalogger except it also has an MP3 decoder IC paired with the vinculum chip.

See the VPROG Re-Flash utility documentation in the Zip or the latest VNC1L datasheet on Vinculum's website for more details.

The pins are Program, Ground and Reset, and are used for programming in another mode.

ok, thanks all! i was pretty sure to just leave them alone, now i know so! :) I just wanted to be sure of what they were for. I don't see me using it for anything else that what it's made for, so i won't be flashing or reprogramming it for anything else.

Everyone's curious about those pins suddenly. =) I just answered the same question on the Savage Circuits Forum like 2 days ago. Phase of the moon? Position of the sun?
