QTI with BS2 - height recommendation?

We are using a QTI to count black and white stripes on a wheel as the servo turns. The code is very simple (at least conceptually), but the height requirement is annoying!!!!

We used QTI before to follow a black line, but we kept having trouble finding the correct height to measure the color (a simple bump affected its capabilities cry.gif )

What height do you recommend for the wheel (each stripe is about 2mm in width)? It's paper taped to a wheel, so it is not flat, unfortunately :\

    The QTI sensor should be between 1/8' to 5/16".· The surface and lighting will also play a part in how it is read as well.

    Okay..I will try it. Maybe I will use a yellow LED (a little lighter in color than red or green) to illuminate the wheel. Is the QTI sensor able to read a rotating servo wheel?
