Replacement for a 24C04

Hi.
I want· to replace a 24C04 in a circuit. The circuit has just one 24C04 and all select pins are connected to GND.
For replacement, all I have right now is a couple of·24C16 chips.
I have found a document on the internet that claims 24C16 cannot be used to replace a 24C04, although I cannot see why not.
Any comments on this? Why a 24C04 cannot be replaced for a 24C16 ?

The addressing is a little different. The datasheet goes into details. If you're not using the address select lines for chip selection, it might work to use a 24C16.
