7.2V Motor, Bracket and Wheel Kit motor problems

I soldered wires to the tabs on the motors and now they don't work when I apply power? Could I have fried something? I have soldered leads to motors in the past (even pager motors) with out any problems.

Since I seem to have destroyed these motors (3 of them) is there a recommended way to connect the leads to them?

Thanks,

Mike

I should add: Is there a good way to connect to these motors in general? I still have a few others that work but I'm afraid to solder them for fear of rendering them useless.

    Thanks

    Mike,
I wouldn't think a simple soldering job would hurt the motors.· If you put a lot of heat on each tab you could have hurt the motors.
My solution was I went to my local auto parts (O'Riely's, Autozone)·store and bought crimp female connectors.· I found them in the electrical section.· They accept .110" blades which is perfect for the tabs on wheel kit motors.· They are gold plated for the car stereo guys which makes them a little pricey, but they work great and allow for easy changes.· It looks like the company that made them is called "Dorman Product Inc.".· The parts numbers are 84541 -red and 84547 - Blue.
    Hope this helps,
    Tony

The first and most obvious thing to check is continuity of the motor. You should see a·short between the solder tabs (very low resistance on the order of 15-20 Ohms). If not, then the connection has been lost between the solder tabs and the internal parts of the motor and will have to be repaired in order for the motor to work.

Thanks for your help. You are right Duffer there is no connectivity between the solder tabs on 2 of the motors. I took one of them apart and even though they looked fine the brushes were not making contact with the commutator. I touched the power wires to the commutater and the motor ran but I could not get it to work with the brushes.

I went to HSC this morning and found some crimp lugs that will fit. For $5 I got a bag of 100 so if anyone needs some let me know.

BTW: The guy at HSC asked me if the tabs were nickel plated. If so then the solder does not stick well (which is the problem I had) and to rough them up some before soldering.

    Mike
