RFID USB Reader

I inherited a problem from my work and really need to know if it is possible with little trouble.

My work bought the parallax rfid usb reader. Is there a code or program out that if you scan with a rfid it thinks it is a keyboard wedge and output the numbers to whatever program is open.

Thank You So Much

There is I'm sure but what it is I wouldn't know. What language do you use to write programs for your pc?

There are many serial wedge programs out there. Winwedge and TEWedge are a couple. I have written custom wedge software to capture data from a different RFID reader directly into Excel. However, it is definately customized to the reader format that I'm using.

They have gotten the rfid usb one, thinking, that if they plug it in it will just do what they want. So now it has been handed off to me to make it work.

Basically what they want to do is just being able to scan a rfid key chain tag and it will read off the number into whatever program is open.

My work has a key issuing system and currently scans in bar codes off of the keys to check them out and check them in. They want to switch to the rfid key chain tags.

Even though it is a USB interface, it will still appear to your PC as a serial port. You should be able to use one of the wedge programs that I mentioned.

    This program might work -

Or the barcode reader might be sending serial data to the program already.
