For any looking for a hand held o-scope for their projects this one looks promising.

That would be useful for lots of things.

Too bad it's so slow though.
Something that small and cheap that
was at least 50mhz would be great.

Not exactly "hand held", but I picked up this 1948 Waterman "Pocket Scope" a little while ago with the intentions of using it as an xy vector display.· Can you believe that short of replacing a few dried out electrolytic caps, this thing still runs fine - and I believe those are the original tubes inside as well !!

    Cool!

That thing looks like a prop from an old science fiction film.

If you could somehow slide in a color lcd behind that screen thing
that looks like a porthole you could do all sorts of displays....and
mount a speaker to play that tune from the Twilight Zone smile.gif

Since the prop can do ntsc it would be fun to use an antique tv
    as a display.

Actually, I've got a controller running a dac that creates x and y signals for a "radar" king of display.· As the line sweep around, it 'blibs' at the hour and minute, thereby display the time.· Somewhere I have a video of it running.

I would love to find an old tv for a Propeller display... I have one of these in mind...

That is really cool. It doesnt surprise me at all that teh tubes are still good. They are better at things even though they take longer to warm up. My high school had an old tube spectrum analyzer that still worked.

Manetheren I have this scope I was cheap though and did not get the one with the back light as much as I do like this unit its very handy but its hard to see without the back light so make sure you get it you wont regret it Oh and I paid 240 bucks when I bought mine
I love to see how fast everyhting keeps coming down in price wish my taxes would go as fast as electronics do.

I think this thread subliminally caused me to get another scope yesterday. I really needed a decent dual trace scope, and never bothered with it cause there are so much. I searched craigslist yesterday and found a research lab that was trying to liquidate a warehouse nearby. This is Tektronix 7623A. It will show 4 signals at a time. 100mhz. Paid $100. The lines slant a little to the right, but not a big deal for my simple purposes. You can see the 4 base levels positioned on the screen.

Mikediv is right about the backlight, I don't have it on the version I bought, and it is a pain.

Look into a used dual trace before something like that handheld, unless you already have a benchtop and just need a very portable unit.
