Need input on circuit categories

Hi all,

This year, I will be RA (resident advisor) in an engineering themed dormitory. My PC and I have settled on a theme: circuit diagrams. We have to decorate the entire hall (~65 residents) with the theme. Since the hall is divided up into eight "sub halls", we thought it would be cool to give each sub hall their own theme in circuits, and to tie together the entire hall with wires and a central theme. Unfortunately, I can think of only a few subcategories.

1.Power transformation and regulation
2. Light and display
3. Motor and electromechanical
4. Radio Frequency
5. Logic and computers
6. Sensors
7. Human interface devices
8. ?

In addition, the central area will have the theme of power generation and transmission.

Does anybody have any suggestions? In addition, I'll be making and full circuit diagram of the whole hall, so ideally it should at least be feasible to draw as a circuit diagram.

Take a look at Mouser's main product page for some ideas:

    How about optoelectronics?

You've got RF; how about AF? Could have pictures of classic audio gear like McIntosh and SAE, and schematics of single-ended and push-pull amps. How about a working diagram of the laser system in the ELP laser turntable for vinyl LPs, a unique design that reads the grooves with five lasers instead of with a stylus? It works, by the way; I have one.

Test and Measurement ... sensors cover some of this ... think about what a DMM does.

Oscillators ... covered in RF a little but it is a class of its own
Amplifiers ... also covered in RF some but not all

Bus and other Electrical Interface ... PCI BUS, etc... SPI (1 bit, 4 bit, even 64 bit :), Ethernet, SONET, PSTN, RS232, GPIB, USB interfaces ... with Connectors, Cables, etc ... CAT5 UTP blah blah blah

I guess Logic doesn't mean Ladder Logic :)
You can find all kinds of PDF with small scale integration logic designs.
