If you have not decided on a propeller development board .....and even if you have and have already purchased
one of the many excellent ones ...............
·
THE BEST DEAL EVER................the Propeller Professional Development Board is on discount by almost 40%....
·
You cannot go wrong with the PPDB............it is an absolutely GREAT platform for developing Propeller
experiments and for trying out almost all aspects of the propeller...............
·
I call it the VEPP.....Versatile Experimentation Platform for the Propeller................
·
I think it is an absolute must for anyone trying out the propeller and wants more versatility and
adaptability with no need to add resistors and LEDs etc.
·
It has a LARGE breadboard area, already soldered and ready to use (resistors and all) Push buttons,
Dip switches, LEDs, 16-Segmeneted LED digital displays, Real time Clock, L293D driver, Keyboard,
mouse, Stereo Head Phones, TV, VGA, RS232 adapter, USB adapter, etc. etc. etc. etc.
·
I just cannot see how you can resist....I have one already and I am seriously considering buying another
one......I am thinking about it quite hard and my saliva is dripping down the side of my mouth profusely....
·

Thanx for the heads up, just ordered mine. I have drooled over the 16 segs for quite a while but $169 was a little too much.

Ugh. I thought I got a great deal, getting one at the Expo for 20% off! After having one for a while, I agree that you won't regret spending that much on it. I enjoy not needing more than just wires to do simple stuff. No messing with finding the right resistors just to flash an LED. Except for a few little things (like the way the switches are wired), it works great with the Education Labs Fundamentals book. This is THE board to have for development or learning. Just don't forget that it doesn't come with a Propeller, or the USB cable (it does have the USB-serial on board).

Re the need for a Prop, remember Parallax is out of stock. However http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=P8X32A-D40-ND shows 169 processors left right now...

Can't Parallax go on one of the shopping channels ?

She that must be obeyed, seems to think that everything on them is bound to be fantastic. Then I could "reluctantly" agree with her, that I really should have more toys.

You can also try the approach of buying 2 similar items. One as a gift to the lady of the house and one for yourself. My wife has an amazing assortment of rods, reels and boating accessories. So do I. Mods, I apologize for the OT qualities of this post but it may help you move product...

Or....you could grow up, pull your zipper around to the front, get up on your hind legs, and become man of the house, king of the castle, head of the household and house-band as Yah the creator created you to be. Who knows, your wife might be getting tired of wearing the pants.

LOL

Doug,

logic tells me, either you're:

a never-married bachelor, or
a divorcee, or
destined to be a divorcee.

The first (and really only) rule of a happy marriage is:
"The wife is always right."
yeah.gif
The first (and really only) rule of being a happy husband is:
"Getting her to recognize when she's not right (but she thinks it's her own idea)

Hey, married life got much better for me after I realized that I did two things wrong:

* Everything I say.
* Everything I do.

Works much better than any rational evaluation of things. Also, as fortune would have it, they put this on the Friday daily deal, so we have until Monday morning!

Happily married for about 20 years, give or take. Married on June 29th, 1979 confused.gif

Actually, I have 5 children, and my wife knows who is boss(not her) and so do my children. It is my first marriage, for over 13 years.
It's not that I care about my wife, but my wife knows I care more about my Father in heaven. Because he is benevolent, and created my wife also, following his precepts
means I care for here more than the average man who doesn't have is priorities in line.
It's not that I don't care what she has to say, and I try not use my position as head as an excuse to be selfish, because that is not what Yeshua taught.
He taught servant leadership. The leader is to serve the ones in his keep. Mat 20:26, Mar 10:43. The Man is to love his wife.
When it comes to rewarding myself with some of the money that I have earned, I do. I reward my wife when she does well also.
When I don't have extra funds, I am still responsible for the basics, so they come first. Reward for performance is one of the principles that keeps me in control of the funds.
When money is tight, I don't have her to blame, because I handle most of the legal tender. I handle the money too(silver and gold), but that is a different topic as parallax doesn't offer their stuff
in exchange for Lawful Money.

I know a lot of you are joking about asking wife's permission and stuff, but I don't think it is funny. Feminism has demoralized this country. It is a tool of the New World Order crowd to destroy America.

As I just purchased a propmod_us_sd_ps from mctrivia, I am set for a while. But if/when those prop2s come out, I will be all over them, even if they are $35ea.

if only i had been born not so subvertient to the master ones, I would not be so much unrich: now. Its my fault, but my mother still thinks I am human, bless.

now, what about politics and religion ???

Doug, I apologize for inadvertently being insensitive to your world view. Though I have thick skin that'll be the last time I stray off topic in a technical forum and risk insulting strangers.

She makes the deals and I don't get involved except to support marketing as necessary.

Knowing our design and manufacturing costs it's a great price.

Hmm... I've seen that board several times, but I guess I don't see what's so great about them... it seems like it's name describes exactly who it'd be useful for. For professionals who's time is expensive, and buying a cheap board and adding their own stuff costs as much if not more in time than just buying that... but for me, as a hobbiest, I've just been buying the Proto Boards (which are awesome when they're on sale). They're very barebone, but they have plenty of prototyping area, as well as the VGA/PS2 pads, and it's easy to add whatever else I need. Plus I hate solderless breadboards :-P. When the Demo Board goes on sale, that one seems really tempting as well, since it's got a great assortment of stuff for development.

Sorry to be the downer in this thread ;) .

DogP, (I wish you had chosen a different name....I cannot stop laughing long enough to write.....)
·
Sometimes when trying out things (especially new things) it is MUCH more time-cost-psychologically-logistically efficient to start from a well tried and PROVEN basis.
·
If you are going to try out an unproven element of design,·it is much more prudent to keep the only variable in the overall design the new and unproven element.
·
If you have multiple unknowns in a design and the project is not working, then HOW do you know which part of the design is the problem????
·
If all other elements are KNOWN and proven, then the only possible problem is either the new element or the interfacing to the new element.
·
So even for non-professionals, the PPDB is of great value. A beginner usually is not as proficient as you at soldering and following schematics accurately. The PPDB offers an easier conduit to start experimenting without too many chances for going wrong.
·
Also in this day and age IMMEDIATE GRATIFICATION is a major factor in keeping the ATTENTION and INTEREST of people. The PPDB offers a QUICKER way to get things done and thus satisfying this criterion.
·
So as you see, it is not just the professionals that need PPDB. Also the beginner, the not so electronically oriented, the not
so mechanically dexterous, the not so patient and the too busy (children, work, wife, family, life), are ALL potential beneficiaries of the PPDB.

That's good Ken!

I was kidding about the shakedown, having a bit of fun. We've got some expenses right now to plow through. I'll score one here sometime soon. It's on the potatohead want list. Stuff will click. I've got lots of props, so it's not like I need another board. It's that I WANT another board!!

It is a great board for just learning, tinkering, prototyping. Truth is a bread board and some components does the same thing, but that's one nice handy package. It's nice to have a few standard board out there too. When sharing ideas, building on one just makes things easier.

Ken, the demoboard was half price a few weeks ago. I took the opportunity to order four of 'em. The Pro Dev board has also been offered at this price a few times. I decided it would be a bit much *cough* right after ordering the four demo boards but if this one goes back to this price again I'll probably get one.
