Buying in UK

Hi everyone,
Im new to the Propeller chip and I was wondering where I can buy the chip in the UK? I've got basket on the website coming to around $14 but to have it shipped to the UK by UPS is $80! and no other shipping options work, so I was wondering if, either there is a cheaper alternative shipping method that won't cause my stuff to get lost in customs (which has happened) or alternatively a distributer in the UK I can buy from.
Thanks very much,
Sephers.

@Sapieha: Thanks for the link, although it is a lot more expensive than the website, but then again if all else fails.

@Leon: Where would this be, I can't seem to find it on the website?

    Thanks.

    Hi Sephers.

Yes it is more expensive. But it is with EU taxes.
If You buy is US You must pay taxes to.
I buy my first 5 protoboards in US and taxes + shiping was more that 5 of Protoboards.

Sephers, buy from Spinvent, not only is he here in the UK, but he's also the cheapest :) at £5.65 ( even with £4.50 P&P per order, it's still cheaper than anywhere I've seen them so far ) and as a bonus he's also a member of this forum :)

Yeah I think I have decided to buy from Spinvent,
Thanks for everybodys help, I look forward to using the Propeller chip.

Oh just out of interest do I NEED the propeller clip?
I have a usb to serial converter already and have used it for a long time with the PICAXE chip interfacing it directly with the TX and RX pins, can the same be done with the Propeller?

The prop progamming requires Rx, Tx, DTR and earth. This can be changed in the IDE but I have never tried it.

The dtr signal resets the prop to invoke its boot/load system. I have always used the three transistor cct or a Max2323 and an extra transistor. I have a FT232 chip and will work up the courage to build the SM bd for it, I dont mind 50 mil stuff but 1/2 millimetre ...

@Baggers: thanks for pointing out Spinvent. I was hopeful such a thread as this one would point to the solution Tony and Parallax have provided at this stage. There are low-cost Propeller chips in the UK from Spinvent.

    Hi Ken,

Whilst I see the world has changed with regard to the previous lack lustre UK supply problems. Find myself confused that you wanted a further posting to point out who you use as distributors within Europe. As a marketing guy could you not have made more of a big issue about this. For certain this information would never escape you.
I'd be surprised if this surprised you. Someone within Parallax woke up and realised that we might also want to get this previous *Niche* product within a reasonable markup from the Dollar price.

I see things being very simple, a two step process. Order Propeller Chips from SPINVENT. Step two get the chips. You are now head on head against the PIC 18F midrange when bought in small quantity with postage & packing and VAT added in. I believe that we should support Tony in his Spinvent business. Sprinkle a little industrial magic from the OBEX and before you get a second to blink the project is done. Well real life is never that simple, add in an excellent user driven support forum. Have never seen a support forum quite like this. This is total excellence and a real credit to the Guys and Girls of Parallax, with a helping hand from the users that love Parallax products.

You should all feel rightfully proud for the hard work have placed in to and around the name "Parallax" Is a name that stands for quality and almost above anything total end user support.

    With Regards

    Mike.

If you're buying in the UK or Europe and want a reliable and friendly service then go to www.spinvent.co.uk

Tony is as sound as you can get and has helped me massively in getting my project (solar thermal controller) off the ground.

    All the best

    Adri
