Literally the worst day ever!!!!!

Im sure we've all had those "oops, i guess i need to get a new one moments" with a component that may have cost about $50 that in about 3 hours we come to terms with and just buy a new one. Well, I had one of those moments today, only this component cost me about 6 time more than $50. I think I need to cry a little more. What is this component you may ask...it was a uoled display that wasnt bright enough so i hooked it up to my power supply...but i forgot to turn the power supply to 5v and not 12-20v. The display went bright pink and then out. Did i say i want to cry, cause i want to cry.

Now that my short rant is over and i think i am coming to terms with the lost display, do any of you know of a serial display much like the 4d systems displays that are a little bigger (maybe 2 times as big 480x640ish in size). I really would like it to·have·touchscreen capabilities·and if its oled or lcd i dont care. I dont really want to deal with vga cause i already have 200+ lines of code that i would rather modify then start new. It must do rgb color.

okay okay, the worst day for me...

peter, does the company for the displays you have showed me ship to the US, or do they have a US dealer.

It seems to be a one-man band in Austria. Try emailing the proprietor.

    Science_geek,
I don't know. I found out about these displays via my local
Parallax distributor (Antratek.nl) that sells them. Possibly
    they only sell to resellers.
    Perhaps Antratek ships them.

    I can't resist:

I long for the days when $300 and a few hours constituted "the worst day ever"... If only we could turn back the clock.

Science Geek: Sorry for your loss and frustration, I don't mean to imply the dollars (or frustration) are trivial, they are not. I hope you get things worked out.

SRLM, I think you forget to mention the battle of Thermopylae. That was a pretty bad day for about 300 dudes.

    science_geek,

I can relate to your pain. About two weeks ago I did something bad to my uLcd32032 while playing with its expansion connectors. Probably not quite as terminal, because it still responds to commands, but just doesn't show anything... which reduces it pretty much to a serial touch tablet

Here's a little philosophy I learned to utilize some years ago. You might want to give it a try when things go awry.

Bad day for me: I'm an unarmed civilian being shot at by soldiers using heavy machine guns.

Good day for me: I'm an unarmed civilian being shot at by soldiers using heavy machine guns and I don't die.

I'm sorry to hear that you fried a display. At some point everyone manages to make a mistake like that. I guess on the bright side you'll double/triple check things before applying power to our next project. It may seem like the worst day but things can always be worst....

An example is what happened last year. After looking at the picture you might think that I consider that one of the worst days. However I decided to look at the bright side and instead that it was one of the best days. Reason being I had pulled up 15 minutes before that happened and wasn't in the vehicle at the time. Also, the rest of the family was away and no one was hurt. It was kind of a bummer that it just had new tires put on two weeks before the tree took it out.

Electronics and material things can be replaced and rebuilt but people can't.
