  per the docs, is a method that looks short range.

  Looks to me like you could use the 555 circuit in the data sheet, measure the frequency, and put it as far away as you want.

  More parts that version, interesting though. Looks like the 555 circuit can be temp compensated. 3.5 to 12v. How long with parallax's circuit?

  My idea is to have two, and ordered two, to measure the difference in humidity between rooms, or inside and outside.

  So we are talking about less than 50 feet. I would run some cat5 or phone cable to the outside sensor to provide power on one pair and return the 555 signal on the second pair.
