Besides nicolad76, is anyone here working on interfacing the Propeller with an ePaper display? I really like the the ability to read them in daylight, and the low current draw.
Ha! Me too. The dev kits are over $1k, last time I checked. Probably makes better sense to rip apart one of the cheaper ebooks, but it's still pretty expensive.
Hi Jay,
If 80 dollars for the display 6" is not too much, the driver would cost around 5 dollars but then you need two sram of 64K and some circuitry to provide the local temperature to the driver itself.
I do not know if currently the price of the display has gone down a little....
@potatohead: The Esquire used eINK (not sure if it is different tech than ePaper) and for cost purposes they used cells instead of pixels. The reuse of the screens is only possible in very limited ways because most of the cells are the shape of words, small squares of the remaining background. However, each magazine had 6 nice batteries (3v coin cells) which I anticipate to be useful for future projects.
I really like the idea of a pixel based e-ink / paper display. IMHO, the fact that it does not need a refresh, and has a state, means low memory devices like the Propeller, would be a great match!

Right next to laser keyboard for the Propeller and Vision Goggles.
(Just can't be justified for use with a $14 Propeller chip.) :)
The video is awesome.. I could definitely see one of these
screens used in a future digital trainer.
