  The Handy Board uses a pair of those drivers and the schematic will give you an idea on how to wire them up.

  I've take a look at the schematic. But it's a bit complicated for me.
  
  Is there anything much simpler for newbie like me?

  I really hate to do this, as I will be referring to another non-Stamp product, but page 12 of PICAXE manual (http://www.picaxeforum.co.uk/docs/datasheets/picaxe_manual3.pdf) provides simple clear instrutions on how to connect the L293D to a microontroller.

  The L293D is also on the PDB and is covered in the Stamp Works manual in relation to controlling a Stepper Motor.
