RFID Crad Reader won't read...

I'm trying to wire up the RFID reader to a 3.3v serial port on an embedded computer. I have a voltage converter chip to translate between the 5v logic on the reader and the 3.3v on the computer but I can't get anything thing to come out. The status light on the reader is initially green and then goes dead when I tie the /ENABLE pin to ground if I wiggle the serial wire a little bit the LED flashes on green and off rapidly and then after a moment settles to solid red on. But, at no point does any output ever appear on the computer serial port.

Is this flashing behavior normal? Any suggestions on how to debug this problem would be much appreciated.

Show us how you have the reader connected please. Your connections should be good enough that wiggling them does not cause opens. Post the snippet of code you are using to communicate to the reader also.

    Pete123,

Can you post your code, or the source of your code that you are currently using? Also as Stephen suggests, please post a schematic of your setup if you can.
