Is it possible to·make this the default - it makes more sense when one is following a topic.

    I thought that was the default. Anyway, that's the way it always comes up for me. Have you tried changing the setting after you've logged in? Maybe it remembers the preference on a member-by-member basis.

    I've tried that but to no avail. Every post I open shows me the·original post first. Maybe it's something to do with·cookies?

    Sorry: I was confusing "newest post" with "newest thread". You're right, what you're seeing is the way it works on my computer, too, and is what I prefer. The reason is that, combined with the "last seen" feature lastpost.gif, you can pick up where you left off the time before and continue reading the thread in chronological order.
