Well it feels like a problem but i guess it has more to do with my working knowledge of gadgets.

If a GPS can say "you are here " and then I move 10 yards north, then the gps should say "you have moved to here"

How does this sound ?roll.gif

The "GPS" doesn't know that.· It would have to be the software that reads the GPS data that decides this.· The GPS receiver just figures out where you "ARE"· over and over again.· If you move... the data it sends about "where you are" to who ever is listening (handheld interface, microcontroller, PC) updates accordingly.· You seem to be expecting that the GPS receiver "remembers"... but actually a programmed application will need to do that "remembering".

It's really dull reading, but you might want to look into the NMEA Sentence format, which is what a GPS receiver spits out when it sends position updates.· FYI:· It doesn't just send update sentences when you change position, it sends them at regular intervals regardless if you are moving or not.

Plus you have to deal with errors in your position. 10 yards is not very much with regular GPS. Even when you are standing still, if you look at the output, you will see it constantly changing.

So can I guess that builing my own GPS for the tractor, to plant crops with a ten meter planter is not going to be easy ? :)

(they are $5000) but like with cars, a Garmin road gps can be bought for a few hundred. But if you order a gps to come as an option in the new car, they want a few thousand! (talk about adding value :)
