How to insert spaces in a forum message?

If have searched the forum and found several messages related to spaces but as far as I understand it always
did deal with program code etc. Not clear to me.

Here is my problem:

the following was a nice table in a forum message ...

Real movement Program read out Steps(1/8) Steps(full)

1" 0.621" 76000 9500 (=76000 / 8)
1.247" 1.007368" 60800(=7600*8) 7600

Where are all my spaces gone, and what should I do the next time to keep the format?

thank you,
Ed

I usually insert a 'Formatted Code' box like below when I want stuff spaced properly, but there may be other ways.

Real movement Program read out Steps(1/8) Steps(full)
    ------------------ -------------------- ------------------- ---------------------
    1" 0.621" 76000 9500 (=76000 / 8)
    1.247" 1.007368" 60800(=7600*8) 7600

    Mike,

thx, never used and I was not aware that such a box can be used for improved formatting.

That still doesn't line up for me. They ought to use a fixed width font such as courier for editing, and for displaying code sections. But again it's no doubt the bulletin board system that is at fault.

    CG,

I wonder if it’s a browser setting on your side…The code window does use a fixed-width font (Lucida Console). As with e-mail, web browsers can over-ride font settings, or perhaps you don’t have that particular font installed? Take care.

It's both: If your computer doesn't have Lucinda Console installed, the dotNetBB forum CSS defaults to a proportional font. I've done some experimenting with user-mode style sheets but found that the simplest solution is just to bite the bullet and install Lucinda Console (LUCON.ttf).
