SX programming question

Hello,

I have a question about programming the SX. I'm a bit confused as to which programming language is used to program the SX.
For what I am doing I know the stamp doesn't have the capability that I need. So I need the SX or propeller.

I've bought the Basic stamp controller kit and Radio Shack and have been playing with it to get familiar with how these things work.

PBasic language is fairly straightforward to learn.
The SX is capable of being programmed in Basic also? This is where I get confused. Or are there two different languages it can be programmed in?
I understand the language that I program on the PC is one, but it is converted to something else when loaded onto the chip.
I know I need to learn the programming language, but I don't want to make it a 2nd career.
If I can use the basic language that would be great.

You can program the SX in Basic using SX/B. It's available as a free download from www.parallax.com/sx/sxb.asp.

SX/B is included in the SX-Key IDE -- you may want to update the compiler portion (latest is 1.51.03), and that can be found in a sticky topic at the top of this forum. With SX/B you can program in pure BASIC (which is very PBASIC-like), and if you choose mix in a bit of assembly as may be warranted by a particular project.

Thanks for the replies.

Which intro kit is probably the easiest to start with? I probably will be making several of these once I figure it out. I'd like to stay with the plug in DIP models. The solder in ones are beyond my ability at this time. These would be running off 12v dc.

Either of the SX Tech Tool kits is good: LITE or PLUS. If you don't already have Gunther's Programming the SX Microcontroller book I'd definitely recommend spending the extra $10 for the PLUS kit. Personally, I already had the Professional Development Board so I did my initial SX programming with that.

I just finished an SX-based project where I used the SX48 Proto Board. For $10 it can't be beat.

The ONLY thing I do SX programming on is the PDB; when I need to build one-off projects then I turn to the SX28 and SX48 proto boards as needed.

If you have the money you'll never regret getting the PDB.

Thank you for everyones help in repling to my questions.

I just ordered the SX Tech tool kit PLUS. I'm playing with the Basic stamp right now to get familiar with these things.
