Gerber Files...Freeware Reader ??

Greetings. I keep on running across Gerber files for PCB layouts. A friend told me it's an old way of storing PCB layouts for traces and what-have-you. He told me I'd need some sort of reader. Does anyone know where I get this software that will convert these text files into a negative I can use for etching. Thanks in advance for your help.

Gerber files are the industry standard method of communicating board designs to a fabrication house. Petalogix's Viewmate is a free software to view the files. You should be able to set the display colors to the appropriate value in order to print a negative image.
