Simulated LCD on PC/MAC

Anyone see any usefullness in this idea? Sometimes I find the need to hook up several TV's or LCD's just to see what is happening on a Prop(s) or SX(s). I decided to create an app that simulates some basic functions of the Parallax LCD on either PC or MAC that could be used when a TV or LCD is not available. The app also will display all received data, plus allow creating and sending strings back to the chip on the fly. At the moment I am setting it up to accept a position (lines 0 - 3, positions 0 - 19) followed by the string to display.

This would be handy during development when the intention is to eventually add a keypad and LCD, but it's easier and more flexible to do it with the development system and only an extra USB2SER or PropPlug is necessary.

Good point. I am using it in a case where there will ultimately be no LCD or TV access once installed, but it will always be connected to a PC or Mac. I can send the specific Prop a command to output the feedback when needed for diagnostics, and turn it off when not needed.

Looks cool, I would probably use this.

Looks good on the Mac. Any chance you can make a version for the Phanderson 107/117 LCD controller shown here www.phanderson.com/lcd106/lcd107.html

Then only thing I can determine unique about the 117 is the big nmber mode, which is very simple. Currently I do not intend to try to eumlate the dot based characters. and will just use the system font, so switching to a big number mode would be very easy. When I am done with this version I'll try to get to it.

Sounds great. I didn't realize the command set between the Parallax and Phanderson LCD controllers was so similar. I've only got the Phanderson 107 chips here (no big number mode) so it sounds very doable. Keep us posted. Thanks
