  This is a very nice soldering station you can use different tips also have surface mount IC's tips
  i have one of these units and i am very very happy with it Temp control is the best thing about it
  
  When you order it talk Shawn he is very help full also ask about th Solder Roll Holder that is also very nice

  There have been several threads on this before... my research lead me to go with the Xytronic's 137ESD...
  
  
  the one thing that my research clearly identified, was that there is no better source than Howard Electronics... Everyone just raves about how friendly and helpful they are (very important when buying any kind of tool!)

  I have a 137esd, plus a bunch of other stuff from Howard Electronics... I love this soldering Iron.. Well worth the money. I currently have three tips that serve pretty much all of my soldering needs.

  I had difficulty learning to solder...the·137ESD made all the difference in the world
  for me...that and a good magnifying glass

  I have a Hakko 936, ESD version. The Xytronic looks perfectly good for the job. If you're doing ICs too you MUST get the ESD version or risk static electricity damage.

  I recommend purchasing the mini-wave tip to go with your Xytrinic iron, it makes soldering surface mount devices a much less daunting task.
