DOS to Stamp

Hi All
I have my BOE up and running and have worked thru a few examples.
I want to run the project from my old DOS/Win31 machine and am have been unable to establish communication.
I try to use the old machine for interface experiments and reserve my new one for safe stuff.
The serial cable works, I can connect and run from my new computer using WINXP .
I have the DOS versions STAMP.EXE and STAMP2.EXE - both run ok but unable to detect hardware.
I have tried setting the mode in DOS but I really don't know what I am doing.
Can anyone offer suggestions?

If you could give tech support a call at 1-888-997-8267 and ask for Dave, I can go over the connection·and set up to get this up and running.· Our hours are today until 2:30 p.m. Pacific time or next week from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Pacific time.

I feel rather slow, I was trying to use identify (ctrl I) to determine if communication line was open as in the windows version. When I tried running the program (ctrl R) it worked.
