bs2 > BreadBoard wiring/unwiring when plugged in hooked up to rs232

I have been breadboarding a lot of you'lls suggestions and projects lately.. And my one question is... Do I need to turn off my computer inorder to unplug the rs232 connection to my bs2? also Can I unplug my power source (right now a 9volt batterY) for my bs2 while the rs232 is hooked up to the bs2?

Sorry for newbie questions..

Computers can usually handle unplugging of serial devices with the power on for the computer.· I would definately recommend turning the power off on the other end.
