programming ds1620 for thermostat mode

I need some help in programming a DS1620 for thermostat mode.
I have read many of the program listings and postings about this subject, and they all talk about a terminal software program· with a unique cable connection· through a 22k resistor. Is there a web site that expands and explains these instructions·and the specific code or better yet some easier way, using the standard interface cable and the bs2.
