Com 1 problem

Hi, I was hoping someone could help me out with my com 1. I am
trying to download a program into my bs2 and it won't recognize it.
I checked my device manager and it seemed ok. I can't get any
programs to work with it. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I
can try?

Thanks,

Chris

Do you have a PDA or similar device that is highjacking that comm port?

What kind of computer? Have you tried using other COMx numbers with the
Parallax software? Even if you only have one visible com port its number
could be something different than com1. I've had this sort of problem on
IBM notebooks because COM1 is usually assigned to the IR port. The DB9
connector is usually COM2: on these systems.

Don't forget some computers can't use COM1 and 3 (or 2 and 4) at the same
time. So maybe you have something on COM 3 interfering with COM 1.

    Chris,

Are you using a Toshiba laptop? If so, you need to disable the FIFO buffers.

Thanks for all of the replies. I am using a dell inspiron 2500. It
seems to be a hardware issue. Everything I have does not work on
com 1. Also I tried using a dos program to check the serial port
and that didn't work either. Any more ideas?

It could be that the IR port on the dell may be assigned as com1, you would
have to disable the IR port?

    Suggestion:
Purchase a good USB to serial adapter -- The BAFO unit sold by
parallax is a good deal, and I like the KeySpan unit. This will let
you install a known-good serial port on the USB port of your Dell.
