Hi All,

Ran across this on another list, and thought someone here might be
interested, there have been several ignition system threads recently. I
don't know anything about it other than what is below, and that was cut and
pasted from a post on another list.

International Rectifier has developed a special IC designed especially to
drive ignition coils and other devices that present unique kickback
problems.

Their new IC, designated IRGS143C40L incorporates special clamping diodes
and is designed to operate / switch capacitive loads into inductive coils.
It includes on-chip voltage clamps between both gate-emitter and also
gate-collector.

It can dissipate an amazing 54 watt continuous (125 w. max) and can operate
in the 15-20 Ampere range with heatsinks. It's available in the standard
TO-220AB package.

This may be old news, but I thought I'd pass it along just in case.

Jonathan
