  Your avatar file size must be less than 30720 bytes and it's dimensions must be 75 x 75 pixels or smaller. The animated gif should work as long as these limitations are met.

  Animated Pug is a mere 8 KB.
  
  Some can get as large as 80 KB, and those have many frames and are usually larger than our standard (75 x 75).
