Been a LONG time.
After several years of hiatus I have come back to just say hello and get a bit of advice. I have found myself in need of a simple solution for a magnetic door open/close device. I have an interior door that will open to my office. I have several options available as I have the Parallax Wi Fi device, albeit they are older and also a couple different RFID devices. I am thinking RFID is going to be the way to go due to it's simplicity. I already have all the components, I just need to re figure out which ones are which. Any how, I just thought I would run it by you folks to see if anyone has any other ideas that would be generally easier. I had Grok run everything including code so I am set there, I think.

Hi
Perhaps you should tell a little more about your need and give the thread a suitable name related to the question?
I don't know if there are Bluetooth devices, which can scan the neighborhood for known devices?
At a large plant where I used to work, electric cart pilferage was rampant. I used early versions of the XBEE with the TX power turned all the way down. I kept one in my pocket with a 2032 battery set for 'virtual wire' and a wake up rate of a second or so. (Battery life was several weeks) The RX in the cart had the virtual wire output connected to a relay that maintained power to the keyswitch. The range was 20-100' or so. Nobody ever made it past 200' with the cart before it shut down! Would probably serve to unlock your door while you are near.
When you say RFID devices; do you mean Parts like 32390, 28140 or 28440 RFID readers with serial interface?
Maybe a Key Fob kit would work for the simplest configuration. The 700-10016 is out of stock though. Maybe there is something similar, however more costly from access controls like Linear/Nice.
If not needing ID logs or multi user, KISS comes to mind.
