I made a security system out of cell phone tech, because if the house power goes out, only cell phone tech will be active with battery backup...

Sure, there are many apps for this already. An old Android phone can be put to good use, thanks to all the integrated features.
Anyone can create an app, in minutes with RFO BASIC aka: BASIC! (with the exclamation). This is an interpreter that actually runs on the device.
Makes a great front end for a microcontroller.
