Do get a powered USB hub. The more ports the better. Some times you need more than 4, also powered because some computers just don't have the power available. Found this out the hard way. When my original Surface (which could handle a bluray player) face planted itself it was replaced by the current Surface Pro. DVD and BluRay is sketchy at best.
I use an 8 port powered hub. Currently, serial to program prop on PPDB, serial to PPDB DB9, DVD-Bluray, external USB3 drive, Digilent Analog Discovery. . Ports go kinda fast......
