I just copy and paste the URL from Chrome's URL bar into a post. No messing with "view source" or trying to wrap it into any special tags or other mark up.
The problem is getting worse. Now randomly, when I go to reply to or edit a post, the "Leave a Comment" box pops up but there is no cursor anywhere to be found. The only thing that works is clicking "Show Source" twice.

I have found the "No Cursor" curse since day one. I just click in the box, type a letter, and know the focus is in that box. That's my workaround in Chrome, haven't tried other browsers.
I don't get an initial cursor either, but once I start typing the cursor appears. Chrome 43 on Ubuntu 14.04.
And just pasting a URL into the box works for me.
I get flaky, inconsistent results between my PC w/IE11 and my Kindle tablet. Not happy, especially after typing a long post but can't post it due to a "system error". I'm not long for this nonsense. It's not fun anymore, just a frustrating waste of time.
The posts don't get saved to drafts?
I just checked and I have 14 drafts since whenever I start to type a reply it automatically gets saved and there's not a way of cancelling a post.
I start lots of replies I never post and this new forum now keeps these reject posts for me to pursue later. It seems particularly cruel of the forum software to delete your posts while saving so many unwanted ones.

You mean you're typing blind, or just without a cursor?

Vanilla used to be my favorite flavor, too. As well as Vanilla BS2's. Now it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Time for a free Slurpee!
