I posted a message in the general section regarding a recent viewing of Short Circuit 2 and its Radio Shack connection.

So it got me thinking...what other robot related movies have I missed?

Here's a list from Wikipedia...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Robot_films

So what's your favorite robotic movie?

Any additional movies that Wikipedia missed?

Oh... and let's not forget "Logan's Run".

Not really a movie, but when I was a kid I loved Lost in Space - A Trip through the Robot episode - you can watch it here - http://www.hulu.com/watch/14657

B9 and Robby recommend "The Colossus of New York", but I've never seen it. IMO the LIS episode "War of the Robots" is worth watching.

    "You ... have ... destroyed ... meeee"

Even for an LIS episode, the one they were in together was pretty lame. Ugh. At least it was one of the first instances of using the word "robotoid." Whatever that means.

Connoisseurs know it was Robert Kinoshita who designed both of these robots, so it's fitting they'd share screen space together. This commercial somewhat rectifies the horror that befell us nearly 50 years ago by CBS television.

For me, it was Gort in the original 1951 Day the Earth Stood Still that carved out my road to robotics.

    It could be worse, Tommy.

    They could have... CASTERS!

Ah, you gave it away. That was the secret twist at the end. The humans survive by running into a house with carpet-to-tile thresholds. The robots just roll around on the carpet until their batteries wear out.

    rosie-robot.jpg

Why WOULDN'T Rosie be a favorite????

(Yes, there WAS a Jetson's movie (1990), so don't anybody get all "she's not from a movie!" on me.)

Casters don't scare me anymore, Casters can't handle laundry piles and loose towels, so i just don't do laundry...
Now those creepy spider thingys on the other hand, were state of the art, and every bit as scary as "Chucky"(childs play) or "Freddy"(friday the 13th)
I had never seen anything like a Hexapod before, it was awesome to me.. OH NO! I just said 'awesome'...NO! the song is coming back to my head.. make it stop.NOOO...
"everything is awesome, when you are part of a team..." DOH! that song, it won't go away..aarrggg... Hey come to think of it, The Lego Movie had a robot too...

Servo Motors sure have changed the way we live(and sleep).

..."Tobor" (robot backwards) and "The Invisible Boy" (another Robby movie plus an evil mainframe).

Oh! and "Silent Running" - the robots were soooo cuuuuuuuuutte!

Neither are listed on the Wiki page.

+1, and the backstory on the amputee actors inside the small drones is moving. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silent_Running

Another vote for that excellent movie!

    Other favorites of mine:
    Short Circuit
I, Robot and Bicentennial Man (both based on really good books)
Robots (animated, but excellent take on a robot civilization)
Animusic (not movies, but impressive computer animated robotic instruments laying music)

I hate to say it, but I have never seen Forbidden Planet.

I have not seen the film but THX 1138 was one of the best books I've read. I think we are heading in that direction.

PS. I think Robbie is the best looking robot but if i could have one I'd take 9 the lost in space robot...because i saw him in so many adventures growing up.(me , not Robot :)

Many years ago I worked on an instrument that was actually called a Tobor. It was large enough to place a small animal between two detectors to measure the radioactivity. Between the steel base, lead shielding, and the two detectors sticking out it looked a lot like some of the tv robots of the day.

Of the three mentioned, only Tobor is missing from the wiki page.

Moon, with Sam Rockwell is not in the list. Neither is Ridley Scott's Prometheus.

If you enjoy watching any ANIME movies I would recommend FREEDOM (Complete Collection). That not only has some cool robots in it but it is a great story too. Well worth watching. In fact I need to put that on my list to watch again soon.

Recently a new series came out called ROBOTICS NOTES (1 & 2) which you may like.

 no doubt, Forbidden Planet is the best, hands down! I do like Silent Running. If ya'll really want to see a really good robot movie, watch the one I am coming out
with!! It is called, "The Strange Machine". (based on the novel, Mechinations of Divinity). The Strange Machine movie will be in cartoon format, produced with software
from Toon Boom! It will be free on youtube, don't miss it!!!!!!

If you enjoy watching any ANIME movies...

Robot Carnival is 70% odd and 30% cool for my tastes. At least it's free on youtube. My favorite too-brief sequence is at 14:40, the rough pencil animation intro to "Cloud", where a baby robot first learns how to stand and dance. Very charming IMO.

Isac Asimov's cartoon, "Lightyears" was a good one, but was rather different. If you see it,
you was/will be introduced to way out concepts. :)

Erco, you reminded of an Anime movie where there is a traveling circus or carnival that bring destruction in its wake. I forget the name though.

Many cool and weird Anime movies. Check out Chobits. :P
