  @prof_braino , I wonder if the stem cells could attach themselves and become part of the brain ? This could counteract the brain shrivelling over a life time and perhaps restore memory?

  I think about this sometimes (with the few bits I have that still function). The new bits would have different patterns or no patterns burned into them. This could change behavior, memories, personality... Talk about changing one's mind! This could be the literal extreme. I am looking forward to this experience, but wonder if I'll be as much fun after the upgrades....

  Of course why stop at repair when perhaps they could also enhance, although the size of the skull may be a stopping point?

  Not at all! I've been augmenting brains with ocean life for years. Shown below is one of my more successful test subjects. Before augmentation, he was getting D's and F's in his oceanography classes. Now, I'm proud to say, he's working at a solid D average.
