I think about this sometimes (with the few bits I have that still function). The new bits would have different patterns or no patterns burned into them. This could change behavior, memories, personality... Talk about changing one's mind! This could be the literal extreme. I am looking forward to this experience, but wonder if I'll be as much fun after the upgrades....

Not at all! I've been augmenting brains with ocean life for years. Shown below is one of my more successful test subjects. Before augmentation, he was getting D's and F's in his oceanography classes. Now, I'm proud to say, he's working at a solid D average.
