Do I want a DEFCON Badge?

If they don't sell out, I may buy one here. At $40, I balked at first and have yet to purchase one (or several) for my "collection of all things Parallax". Perhaps someone can shed some light on what these little Prop-powered Badges can do. Anybody?

They can be mounted on your wall and flash their LEDs back and forth... Also, they have VGA, PS2, and I/O ports. So, they can do anything Propeller.

I really wanted one, so I bought type 3. I like the use of the PCB as a design.

I want two, so I can hang them on the wall in the same room and watch them communicate. Then I can come here and C&V code from you to make it cooler.

Unfortunately the accountant says the R&D budget won't allow it, so I had to fire the accountant.

So do they interact automatically or would I have to code that?

Did it come with the hardware for the VGA and PS2? I read on another site that at DEFCON the I/O connectors were included but not installed. Is that still the case from HackerStickers.com?

    From the website:

"Badge comes with 6 batteries, 2 PS/2 connectors, and 1 VGA Connector."

For all the work we Parallaxians put into the badges I say, "But of course you want one!"

But in all seriousness, I'll try to give you some real info. Yes, the badges do come with the VGA and PS/2 connectors, but you do need to install them yourself. This will require removing the battery pack. It's also possible to bend the battery pack back a bit, but it's a much tighter soldering job. Ken wrote up some instructions here.

Other than that, the badges have 8 blue LEDs, an infrared transmitter/receiver pair for communication with other badges (sample code can be found in the firmware posted here) and a 512K EEPROM. The boards can be powered via USB or with the AAA battery pack on the board.

    Hope this helps!

Not sure what it ships with but I know I've seen the code for it here somewhere. People were posting their debug windows too. I think this is the Official thread - http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?141494-Article-Parallax-Propeller-on-DEF-CON-20-Badge-Start-Here!

    DoggieDoc,

A while back you saved our family cat by providing us with the ultimate cat-scratcher - that cardboard, washboard-looking thing loaded with catnip. Since we took delivery of that piece of "furniture" Fluffy has no longer been a problem around our furniture. So, I wish to thank you again by sending you one of my DEFCON 20 spare badges.

Please drop me an e-mail with your address again.

    Thanks,

    Ken Gracey

@Publison, I really don't know but I doubt it. We don't own the extra badges (DEFCON does).

You are way to kind to me sir. If you recall, that was my thanks for the help with the toddler parts. You're not supposed to thank me for thanking you. :D:D
