... because it will be one second longer than last weekend or those to follow:

What do you plan to do with the extra time?

    1. Certainly get out of bed a few seconds earlier to make a total of three (3) new seconds.
    2. Use two seconds to call Chip and tell him "time is up - finish the P2!"

I'll use up mine by thinking about how things were so much better back in the good ole days when the days weren't so dang long.

Great, I'll have one more second to pack my full basement into 1/3 the space before the remodelers show up to turn it into finished space. I'm ok with it though, I've just lost my 16x16 wood shop and my electronics work are with my 4x8 foot workbench. :0( But gained a second!!

The jobs they never tell you about in High School career counseling:

The International Earth Rotation and Reference Systems Service (IERS), formerly the International Earth Rotation Service, is the body responsible for maintaining global time and reference frame standards, notably through its Earth Orientation Parameter (EOP) and International Celestial Reference System (ICRS) groups.

OK, at least they never mentioned it to ME!!!

BTW, those of you with GPS units should be able to see the leap-second insertion at midnight UTC on the 30th. My guess is that there will be two successive readings showing the same time.

Okay, okay, it's not a solar eclipse or the transit of Venus -- just sayin'.
