...interesting. It doesn't appear to utilize the "standard" 13-pin cable found on other available synthesizers. Guess all the sensing is done on-guitar.
Tracking appears to be very good. Hope they don't fill the brain with a lot of useless sounds.
I have a Roland GR20 unit with a hex pickup on my "mutant" guitar (Warmoth SG body, Warmoth Strat neck). Was never able to obtain accurate tracking...:depressed:...and so it remains moth ball'd.
Actually, it's not a synth, it doesn't produce any sound at all. It's purely a pitch-to-MIDI converter. The conversion is performed by the on-guitar device and then the MIDI code is transmitted wirelessly to the PC where the code triggers the PC-based synthesizers, etc. I scrapped all my hardware synthesizers and guitar amps many years ago in favor of the PC which has opened up a whole new world for me. I am currently building a fan-less Atom-based (dual-core) mini ITX system purely for this purpose so the timing of this new pitch-to-MIDI device is just perfect.
DJ, I have a mothballed Roland GR-50. The *expensive* cord eventually went bad and then the guitar with the hex pickup was stolen I'd love to get it running again, but I don't have the $100 bucks or so for cable AND pickup.I've never played with the GR-20, but the 50 doesn't track perfectly. That can be used to your advantage sometimes... I had a sawtooth 5th's patch that if you hit pinch harmonics JUST RIGHT it would TOTALLY flip out *in a way cool, almost predictable way* Throw some blended guitar with a bit of distortion for total bliss
If you ever feel like selling the pickup and cable, let me know!
I've played with pitch2midi before and there are quite a few possibilities. One project I have not had time to work on is Propeller p2m. A couple years ago I experimented with this and got surprising results. Single note tracking worked quite well but chords were a different story.
In one test, I connected my computer midi out to my keyboard, keyboard audio out to the prop. The prop was running a highly modified version of Mic2VGA which looked for fundamental notes and converted them to midi note numbers. No pitch bend or velocity was implemented. I was able to track 32nd notes with only a few ticks of latency. Tracking notes on the guitar did not work quite as well but I have since had ideas to improve the system.

Nothing much about it on the Fishman site other than the NAMM news.
My interest is peaked a bit...

Lucky for the world I don't have any money.

Very interesting! What did you use for a pick-up and what did you do for ADC? Seems like another ideal application for the Prop architecture
Cheers!
