    Elance allows contractors to register for a specific category of work.

    I use vWorker.com (formerly RentaCoder.com) from time to time. About 10 years ago I farmed-out a project involving forward/inverse kinematics and graphic animation. It was quite a project which went on for a couple of months...ended-up costing me $200!!!! Payment is escrowed for protection of both parties.
