Sharp GP2Y0A21YK IR Distance Sensor

I am currently trying to get the Sharp GP2Y0A21YK Distance Sensor working and am having a bit of trouble figureing out where to start. It has three pins, (power ground and signal). I hooked up the power and ground and can see that the infrared led is infact emitting light (saw it through a digital camera). The signal pin puts out a varying voltage depending on the distance. How can I read a value from it to a basic stamp 2? Do i have to use RCtime? Any help would be great.

You have to use a analog to digital converter. I recently used the adc0831 with a gp2d12. There is a nuts and volts article on that sensor

The analog to digital converter will take the variable voltage and turn it into a serial signal based on the voltage.
