Hi all,
I am building a autoleveler for a model aircraft and I want to try
and interface this with a GPS or some sort of Dead Reckoning System.
I want, that when the radio transmitter is turned off the model
aircraft will fly back to a certain postion and circle until it run's
out of fuel. At this stage in the project I have the autoleveling
system ready. If anybody has good info on dead reckoning systems I
would be greatfull
Thanks Paul

if you use any gps using NMEA 0183, most marine equipment will use thisinter face it is to attatch to basic stamp becase it is very like RS 232so you can use the SERIN command.
    if got to http://www.vancouver-webpages.com/pub/peter/
you will get loads more info

Hey paul I would be interested in your autoleveling system, maybe a
schematic with a list of components, I have been thinking about making an
auto pilot for my rc glider, I was thinking about the gps Idea, then when I
pressed an autopilot button on my remote then the glider would be completley
self controlled, and would stay in apprimatley the same location according
to gps. to go beyond this I am a very beginner flyer so I would like to
build a digital altimeter that would take over control and automatically
elevate my plane if I was to come within 10 feet of the ground. the refresh
rate would have to be fast enough and the resolution would have to be atlest
1 foot. but that would be cool.

they have Rockwell GPS modules at http://www.digisys.net/timeline/ i think
they are $69 US. this might be what you want..
anyways letme know if you wanna share your leveling system.... thanks

I recently built a Stamp I based data collection package for my R/C glider.
(LOSA entry coming this summer!) I implemented dead reckoning nav using a
Dinsmore compass (http://dinsmoregroup.com/dico/index.htm) and a homebrew
airspeed sensor, with calculations performed on the ground by some C++ code.
Accuracy was good enough to readily discern the flightpath, but not much more
than 30' or so, uncorrected for wind drift. Feel free to contact me off-list
    for more info.
