Time/Alarm Project Goals...

Thanks to those who have already responded. Polling the clock or alarm
seems to be what most people have suggested so far.
My project is to build a cool little deer feeder. I wanted this feeder
to be able to input feed times via an LCD and menu buttons. When the
set times are encountered, the motor will spin corn (or whatever) out
of the barrell for a user set amount of time. Power conservation is of
concern, as well as difficulty, since I'm a newbie.
This project has no goals of going commercial that I can see at this
time. I do want to add other features as I go along, though, such as
battery level checking, solar battery recharging, and better motor
control (speeding up and slowing down RPM).
