Does anyone know of an inexpensive source
for an ODB II - to - serial chip/kit/method??

I'm trying to build a reader for the
chrysler jeep cheroke vehicle.

Thanks
Rick

also, off topic, I never seem to get through
to the list by just emailing to 'basicstamps@egroups.com';

I'm always forced to use their web page. What am I doing
wrong when using 'direct' email??

thanks

From what I've seen to date, it would be very difficult, if not impossible to
do with a Stamp. With a PIC it might be doable - so you might check the PIC
    lists.
I have NO IDEA what state the PIC lists are in at present.

    Check http://www.obd2.com/

He has a preprogrammed PIC that will allow you to get OBDII data.

I havent been able to get the stuff to work on certain cars through.

No, the cables require special software to work. If you look on the page
there he has a ISO chip for OEM applications.

    a) Are you referring to the various $30 - $50 cables with serial
terminator? Is this enough for raw data gathering?
    b) On a BasicStamp (or Windows terminal emulator) can you view the raw data
    from the cable?

    Thanks,
