? about S.S.I.R. detector

I didnt know where to post this so I just put it here.

I am wanting to build a module like the S.S.I.R. detector, I would buy one (from parallax) but seeing as I just bought a $200+ BOE bot kit I dont have much spare cash.

I already have all the parts but I just need to know what kind of diode is used or what kind will work.

Thanks for any info.

EDIT I just noticed that this is a Zener (sp?) Diode now I just need to know what teh specs are.

The diode on this is a Zener 5.1v 5% 0.5W.
