$4 Audio Recorder Flash Drive — Parallax Forums

$4 Audio Recorder Flash Drive

Not as revolutionary as the keychain cameras I mentioned here many moons ago, but cheap and handy nonetheless. It works fine, I just got one & tested. Stores recordings as MP3 files. USB flashdrive form factor requires a TF/micro SD card. Slide switch on, it starts recording, slide switch off, it ends. Doesn't get much easier than that. Instructions say recording time (battery life, I guess) is 5 hours. Says ~20 hours storage capacity per 2GB TF card. So it's not hi-fi at that sampling rate, but useful. Keep in your car or bedside to record your flashes of genius. Make a DIY black box recorder (although it can't record while USB charging) or release your inner spy.

Erlend, there are many ebay sellers selling the same item.. even cheaper. Most of them ship internationally. I ordered a couple.
  • Ah - should have known. In the mean time I lost interest. Speak about impulse control...

I've actually been looking for something like that, on and off.. sometimes I need a very simple recorder. I've tried many 'apps' on my mobile phone, they all suffer from some idiocy which makes them impractical. Contrast that with my new-old Panasonic cassette recorder.. press the red button, nothing can go wrong. But it's way too big. (There are 'dictaphones' in the shops, but they're actually very expensive for what they do, and they have too many features.)

If this $4 thing works as advertised it'll be just what I (occasionally) need.
