Simply put....
Can you take off, invert your quadcopter in flight, and continue on?
And finally, can you return to a normal flight and land safely?

  • Loopy, sounds like you're considering getting into the hobby! Be forwarned you'll get hooked. They are tremendous fun.
Flying a quad 'inverted' is beyond me. I had to work hard at controlling my copters with the nose facing me. It meant thinking magnetically as in 'attraction' and 'repulsion'.
  • Inverted quadcopter operation requires the ability to reverse the rotations of the motors. This requires custom firmware on the controller board and special fixed pitch blades. Here is a good article on it:

Basically, you run it like a heli, with the throttle in the center position. Push up, it goes up. Invert, push down, it goes up. Now your mind is doing two thing, is it going away or toward me, am I upright or upside down?

I do it on a simulator first. :)
  • I found it hard enough to fly inverted at several thousand feet when inside something. I'll pass on trying it at tens of feet when watching from a distance.
