Power from USB ?

in BASIC Stamp

Do any of the carrier boards accept power from the USB ?
As well as communicate with the P.C...... ?

    FWIW I power my boards from USB (a Dell desktop, but I have used laptops occasionally) and the same when I use the P2-eval.

    I do not think any of the BS2 boards can be powered by USB.

    One connection to P.C. only ?
    I.E......Power and communication on the single USB cable ?

    I do not think any of the BS2 boards can be powered by USB.

    The exception to that is the BASIC Stamp 2pe Motherboard:

    Yes, single USB/power to P1 and P2 boards. Don’t know anything about Basic Stamp boards. I often use the USB to serial CP2102 dongles which supply 5V on the header from the USB connection.

    Take a look at the OEM Stamp components. The schematic for the Stamp is documented. And it would be an interesting exercise.

    I don't see anything there. Maybe could simply jump from the USB connector ,
    but perhaps the 5V isn't even connected to the boards ?

    Did you look for the documents? They do publish them. It's the contents of the programming on the part we do not need to worry about. The idea was that you'd wire the 5V and Gnd connections to the regulator connections to the rest of the system. Although most of us run our boards on battery power, either 9V rectangular ones or in my case a pair of rechargeable batteries.

    Indeed not. That's the one part of the USB standard not implemented completely here. However one board does use the entire USB connection as its methods of both power and programming.

    Phil I know about that one. But, however, he was asking about generic ones. Sadly according to the page it has become EOL.
