I was talking with a friend of mine about my project to monitor my movements and email for help.

He is an electrical engineer and suggested an alternative using a timer module like this:

It is available in 3 voltages 3-5V, 6-20V , 22-26V

Universal Timer delay module allows delaying power or disconnecting power after preset period of time. It could also be configured to cycle power ON and OFF. Time delay can be set from .2 second to 1000 hours. The circuit is utilizing embedded micro controller so the time delay is precisely repeated every time. Time delay is configured by two configuration wires. Circuit can support up to 5 amps. Current capacity can be extended by connecting external relay.
Timer delay module can be configured to delay power, supply power for a period of time or cycle power with preset delay. There are 17 different timer modes so we sure it will fit your project needs.
With external relay control any current or voltage. Great for automotive application, car amplifier control delay, industrial controls and hobby.

I checked out the documentation. It is just about any timer mode you could ask for.
I also saw that they are in Harrisburg PA. Practically in my back yard.

I wonder what microcontroller it is using and how accurate the timing is - especially for longer periods.
They worked by heating a bi-metalic strip to open or close contacts.
One is a 10 second N.O. and the other is a 3 minute N.C.
There is an older version with 8 modes but the newer version has 18.
You can find it on Amazon and eBay

It uses a STM 8S003F3P6 microcontroller and two HC595 (8-Bit Shift Register/Latch (3-state)) ICs
Here is a video of module's mode 13
(you can view it 1080P on the youtube site)
