By changing one letter at a time in each word without permuting letters, leaving two other common English words, how many changes are required to get from

TEST POLL

to

MATT MATT

I got it in five substitutions for each word. Can anyone do it in fewer? Three is the theoretical minimum for TEST->MATT; four for POLL->MATT. All words have to be in The Official Scrabble Players Dictionary (Fourth Edition).
