    Re: Dark Silicon

If I may ask, how long does it take to compile a Cyclone V -A7 FPGA image for the P2?

At least for the P1V code, it seems to me that there is a ridiculous difference in compile time between...
  2. Re: Has anyone noticed the ROM hex files have invalid addresses? (the git version)

The addresses are intended to be long-word based addresses, I suppose.

I think Quartus generates a warning about the files, but it converts the long words to bytes and stores them correctly using...
  3. Re: Has anyone added a simple UART to their P1V? And a clean P1V compile?

I've been thinking of changing the video Verilog to reduce the video hardware too, but I would probably implement some sort of automatic allocation mechanism, linked to write-operations to any video...
  4. Re: Has anyone added a simple UART to their P1V? And a clean P1V compile?

Just a thought... In a way, the video hardware IS already sort of a parallel write-only UART: you give it the data to send, and it generates the data on up to 8 pins, timed by a programmable timer,...
  5. Hooked up to the Parallax Github Repo

    Hi everyone,

Just letting you know I forked the Parallax Propeller_1_Design Github repository, and made a few changes to steer it in the same direction as we were going with the old...

    Re: Parallax github repository!

I agree that the Parallax repo should contain the code that replicates the P1 as accurately as possible. Anyone who wants to start with the code as Chip intended, should be able to just clone/fork...

    Re: Parallax github repository!

It looks like the Propeller Verilog files have finally shown up in the parallaxinc github area at https://github.com/parallaxinc/Propeller_1_Design, but unfortunately it's a new repository, not a...
  8. Re: Open Propeller Project : Soft-Propeller 40P14

This project is really interesting, I've been following it in the other thread too.

Alukats, you should edit the first post and add a link to your website where people can find more information...

Re: Is the P1V bug free?

It's not impossible that the P1V code still has bugs. There have been several bug fixes since it went into Github; if you get the Master branch from Mindrobots, you will have the most stable version...

    Re: Parallax github repository!

From what I understand in Ken's message, Jeff Martin is putting the ParallaxInc Github organization together. So I think you misunderstand about Ken and Chip changing their minds about taking over...

    Re: Parallax github repository!

Yes! Best news of the day!

P1V is not in there yet but hopefully that's only a matter of time.

    Re: ina[?|

Is this really true? I don't remember ever reading that anywhere. From my experience, I would expect that disconnected input pins would be HIGH, not LOW.

I haven't tried this but in the Quartus...
  13. Re: Port B and Counters, Video Generators and FSRW

I will do some tests when I have some time, but as I mentioned in my previous post, I think any counter mode that depends on an input pin is not going to work when using an input pin that's on port...
  14. Re: Port B and Counters, Video Generators and FSRW

Hey 6581, I noticed you made some changes yesterday.

One of the changes is that in cog_ctr.v, you removed the code that used the port B (input) pins to assign dly. Can you explain why you did...

    Re: HDMI-Output-Board for BeMicro CV

I wonder, when your differentially routed the traces, did you measure the trace lengths on the BeMicro PCB and take them into account?

I'm not a high speed PCB design expert or HDMI expert, but...

    Re: Code Protect

Not that I want to hijack this thread, but the GPL has prevailed in court. The most well-known example of an aggressive fighter for the GPL is probably Busybox, whose makers have won (or gotten...
  17. Re: Port B and Counters, Video Generators and FSRW

Did you try writing some simpler programs, e.g. to blink all outputs on port A and B at the same time, or to make all port B outputs reflect one input pin on port A? That way you can verify that your...
  18. Re: Port B and Counters, Video Generators and FSRW

There are some problems with your changes that I'll discuss later, but the counters look pretty solid.

If you change the mode from %00100 to %00101 and add statements to set dira[0] to 1, do you...

    Parallax Cyclone V Development Board

I would say this is the biggest news of today, period.

In case you didn't notice, Parallax announced their own FPGA development board today, with an Altera Cyclone V A7 (5CEBA7F23C8N; 149K LE) and...
  20. Re: Port B and Counters, Video Generators and FSRW

    Great stuff, 6581!

I see you cloned my Github repo, so it should be easy to pull your changes back in, once I figure out how to do that :-)

I'm reviewing your changes now, the only minor...
  21. Re: BeMicro Max10 initial tests: 3 cogs wil fit.

I think smart compilation is turned on (at least for the BeMicroCV revision in my project). When you click the build button and nothing has changed to the source code, it won't actually build. But...
  22. Re: BeMicro Max10 initial tests: 3 cogs wil fit.

I added the numbers in the last row. It's not a fair comparison because the LE's in each device work slightly different, and the P1V project could probably use some optimization. I think I actually...

    Re: BeMicro CV A9 - 301.000K LE

I agree, but I think that's unlikely to happen: The A9 FPGA contains an ARM core, and Altera probably has to pay license fees to ARM to integrate the compiler in their Quartus tool so they can't...
  24. BeMicro Max10 initial tests: 3 cogs wil fit.

6581 posted a message about the BeMicro A9 which is probably out of range for most of us.

The BeMicro Max10 is going to be $30 (it's not available yet), so it's going to be in range of more...

    Re: BeMicro CV A9 - 301.000K LE

Also, keep in mind that the free version of Quartus doesn't support the A9, you have to get the paid version.

I think for most of us the A9 is out of our league...
