  1. [solved] Re: Does Parallax sell the unmarked propeller chips ? I can't find them ???

    I use a dremel with a diamond tipped burr to render chips anonymous.
  2. Re: The New 16-Cog, 512KB, 64 analog I/O Propeller Chip

    Maybe 'commodity' wasn't quite the right word. What I was meaning was chips which can be bought in relatively small quantities.

    I don't think that's quite right. AFAIK, HDMI will/should...
  3. Re: The New 16-Cog, 512KB, 64 analog I/O Propeller Chip

    This post nicely illustrates why it's important projects don't take too long. You end up designing something which is already outdated when you eventually get around to releasing it.

    A couple of...

    Re: 5V and the Propeller

    If the OP is going to use an original Z80 then they need to watch Vil and Vih for the clock inout. It doesn't have TTL compatible levels.

    Re: 5V and the Propeller

    Why not run the Z80 at 3v3?
  8. Re: Can a propeller be used to drive a Z80 at 4 MHz?

    Have a look at other retro computers using a retro chip linked to a more modern one. Most of them drive the clock line from an IO and vary the clock rate as needed to give them enough time to do...
  9. Re: Memory Interface and IO Peripherals in 2015

    There aren't many 32-bit processors with 1MB of built-in RAM which will directly drive a 800x600 LCD display at 24BPP.

    Re: C: Solution Needed

    If propGCC complies with the C90 standard you just assign one string to the other.

    struct my_struct {
    int x;
    int y;
    char a;
    };

  12. Re: The New 16-Cog, 512KB, 64 analog I/O Propeller Chip

    Many years ago I had a colleague who put an R/2R DAC on the address bus of his Z80 based CP/M system. It drove a moving coil analogue voltmeter. But seeing what the average voltage was you could...

  14. Re: Python on Propeller: many requests lately. . .

    I can't see anyone, and certainly not the educationalists who were likely behind Ken's OP, being interested in a cut down Python. You would, at a stroke, render all the existing tutorial material and...

    Re: How about an Open Source P2-HOT??

    I doubt they care one little bit.

    I'll wager that the list of ingredients, and the exact recipe, is well known. Reverse engineering something like cola is not that difficult.

    The value in coke...
  16. Re: Python on Propeller: many requests lately. . .

    On a decent CPU, with a SSD and plenty of RAM, the time to compile your average 'learning' program is as fast as an interpreted language.
  17. Re: Python on Propeller: many requests lately. . .

    Adding I/O to the Pi is a lot easier than adding Python to the P1.

    As Heater said a few posts back, CS classes teach algorithms not languages. The language is just a tool which needs to be as...
  18. Re: Any advice on small (7" or smaller) VGA monitors for Prop debug use?

    A 7" VGA capable display, with a 5-wire resistive touchscreen, can be had on eBay for around 36GBP. They seems to come with a separate PCB for the touchscreen which has USB out but I'm thinking that...

    Price = the amount of money a vendor thinks a product is worth.
    Value = the amount of money a buyer thinks a product is worth.

    Re: uclinux

    m00tykins,

    I can't help but think that you're trying to re-invent the (round) wheel using a square processor. The P1 and P2 aren't designed for CPU duties; they're designed as real-time...
