    Re: Lament

For me it was 6502 -> Z80 -> 8051 -> AVR at home as 'serious' chips with all sorts of others, like ADSP2100, to play with. Work was 8085 family -> 8051 -> 8086 -> AVR ->....

I still get a buzz out...

    Re: Lament

When I first saw this suggested I thought the world had gone mad but can now see a huge amount of logic behind it. An ARM core with 16 very-capable soft-peripherals around it would be an amazing chip.

    Re: Lament

Thanks and good advice. It'd be a pretty pointless protest anyway. This is something that needs to get done; I've got a couple of designs to do that'll be so much easier in a 32-bit processor.

That's an impressive list of 'stuff' there Heater. I had a similarly long list until a few months ago when I moved a lot of it on via eBay. Although, if I dig around, I suspect I've still got far too...

    Re: Lament

Waking up to another Groundhog Day is too tiring so it's time for me to move on.

It's clear to me that this new chip is heading the way of the P2 as more and more 'features' get added on. Key...

Re: New Hub Scheme For Next Chip

    Doesn't that make writes non-atomic?
  9. Re: Houston, we have a problem... The New P2 doesn't fit.

    Yep, CORDIC and big multiplier.

So they'll tell you although once you look at the generated code, it seems they make do quite happily with around 16 of them.

Re: New Hub Scheme For Next Chip

^^^^^What he said. IIRC the optimal C processor has something like an accumulator, a secondary register, an index register, and a hardware stack.

    And note that I said...

...as I'm not even convinced it needs to be RAM. It could even be a high-speed message passing mechanism.
  13. Re: The case for Additional/Extended COG RAM (+2/4/6/8KB)

My statement is based around answering a fundamental question...

Is the hub there to support the cogs or are the cogs there to make use of the hub?

    ...and a secondary question of...

    Is...
  14. Re: The case for Additional/Extended COG RAM (+2/4/6/8KB)

It can; it's just that something else has to give.

Re: New Hub Scheme For Next Chip

How would that work in practice when using a HLL?
  16. Re: The case for Additional/Extended COG RAM (+2/4/6/8KB)

Depends on what you believe the 'propeller' concept is.

Has anyone been keeping track? Do we know what P2 features haven't crept back in to the P16X64A?
